  1. Piata Sfatului, Council Square

Situated in the historic centre of Brasov, the arc-shaped square is a place where you can admire the beautiful architecture surrounding you, especially the clock tower from the 13th-century. The square is filled with people’s laughter, joy, and discussions from the nearby cafes and restaurants where you can pamper your tastes with some delicious dishes and drinks.

     2. The Black Church

An architectural masterpiece, the largest Gothic church in Eastern Europe sits just off the Council Square. The church earned its name after the fire that burned it in 1689 and the walls gained a darkened shade from smoke. While you’re visiting the Black Church, you will notice a blend of different cultures with influences from the Saxons, the Ottoman Empire, and the Kingdom of Hungary.

These are two more architectural buildings you shouldn’t miss while wandering the streets of Brasov. Once you climb the staircase to the towers, you’ll be welcomed by a grandiose view over the city.

Another beautiful aspect of Brasov is that it blends the turbulent urban life with nature’s calming spirit. The Council Square and The Black Church are situated right at the feet of Tampa Mountain. You can hike all the way to the top or you can ride the cable car up to the fascinating sightseeing that awaits you at the top of the mountain.

  1. Strada Sforii – one of the narrowest streets in Europe

The width of Strada Sforii or Rope Street varies between 111 – 135 cm and its length is  80 m. You might wonder how come such a narrow passageway counts as a street. Back in the old days, firemen used it to quickly move between the city’s tightly packed houses.

  1. Catherine’s Gate and Brasov’s fortified medieval walls

Catherine’s Gate was built in 1559 highlighting Brasov’s coat of arms. It is the only original city gate that survived from medieval times. Old documents mention it under the name of Porta Valacce, the Vallah’s Gate because it was the only entrance for Romanians living in Șcheii Brașovului.

  1. Close to Brasov – Rasnov Fortress

The spectacular 14th-century fortress is located close to Brasov, in Rasnov. The fortress was built as part of a defense system for the Transylvanian villages exposed to outside invasions. It has a mesmerizing view over the entire city, Bucegi, and Piatra Craiului mountains. 

  1. Dino Parc Rasnov

After visiting the fortress, here’s another interesting place you might enjoy, especially if you come with your kids. Dino Parc Rasnov is an outdoor museum that hosts 100 dinosaurs that were restored according to their natural size and offers a plethora of activities such as exploring science exhibits within treehouses, a 9D cinema, a 360° cinema, adventure trails, zip line, and many others. The place is unique in Romania and it’s very close to the Rasnov Fortress.

Brasov is surrounded by several groups of mountains, each one of them has its own breathtaking views. From Bucegi to Piatra Craiului, Ciucas or Postavaru or the small villages located in the heart of the mountains such as Sirnea or Magura villages, we’re sure you’ll find a trail that you’ll simply fall in love with.

The castle is situated on the Transylvanian side of the historical border with Wallachia, displaying art and furniture collected by Queen Marie. At the Village Museum, close to Bran Castle, you can get back in time and discover traditional houses and different ways of living.
